New traditions
The fine arts department will hold its second annual Fall Fine Arts Night in the E.B. Mell Lobby and Auditorium from 6-7:30 p.m on Nov. 16.
In 2022, the fine arts department hosted its first annual Fall Fine Arts Night, which includes a mix of performances and displays by fine arts students. This year’s Fall Fine Arts Night will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. in the E.B. Mell Lobby and Auditorium on Nov. 16.
Fine arts department teacher Amanda Price hopes that moving the event from the Media Center to the E.B. Mell Lobby and Auditorium this year will create the opportunity to showcase more student art and provide more space for musical performances to be celebrated.
“Last year was our first year having it and it was a successful turnout. A lot of families, community (members) and students came to see their work, but where we held it last year was not the most conducive for all of the work to be seen,” Price said. “This year (fine arts department teachers) met to figure out a better place to hold it and make plans for how we can ensure all of the fine arts are having an opportunity to be seen and celebrated.”
Senior Mya Sims had the opportunity to showcase her work at last year’s Fall Fine Arts Night. This year, she is looking forward to seeing what other students have to offer and presenting her new piece.
“It is very interesting to see what everyone else was doing, and it just means a lot to be within our community at school since it's a great way to immerse yourself into work,” Sims said. “I'm showing an oversized ceramic cake that I created. I'm looking forward to showing it just because it's so oversized and just very different from what I've done prior.”
Fall Fine Arts Night provides a platform for students to share their work and appreciate work from other classes and students. Price looks forward to the opportunity for visual arts and performing arts classes to intermingle and to observe student talent.
“(Fall)Fine Arts Night is a celebration of all of the fine arts work that is happening for students. A celebration for the student work (from) student artists, musicians, (and) actors,” Price said. “It is an evening event with artwork on display and students having an opportunity to perform for the performing arts classes, (while) having families and community members come to experience it.”
