Clarke Central Time Capsule Photo Gallery

On February 8, the iliad literary-art magazine club learned the basics of photography from 2021-2022 Co-Editors-in-Chief Luna Reichert and Kaija Gilbertson Hall. On Feb. 22, club members applied the photography techniques they had learned by taking photos around Clarke Central High School. These photos were taken on two Fujifilm disposable cameras and each student had the opportunity to take several photos. 

We have compiled a time capsule gallery of scenes from CCHS in 2022, which we hope will entertain CCHS alums by giving them a current look into their former school and enlighten future students about Clarke Central’s past.

Above: OVERLOOKING THE FIELD

Ripps felt that the iliad club offered a unique space for creativity at Clarke Central. “I feel like a lot of classes at CCHS don’t really allow you to be creative, especially if you don’t have room in your schedule to do art or creative writing,” Ripps said. “I thought it was really fun to take time out of my day to sit down and have fun.”

Billy Henderson Stadium is captured in the morning light from a Clarke Central High School stairwell. Henderson served as the CCHS football coach from 1972-1995 and the stadium was named after him in 1996.

“We Are All Gladiators” is a mural painted by Will Eskridge at common areas Ceremonial Entrance of Clarke Central High School that highlights extracurricular activities at CCHS. The mural, painted between October and November of 2020, was painted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of CCHS.

Sophomore Cate DeMaria (left) and senior Kaija Gilbertson Hall (right) sit in the breezeway at Clarke Central High School. DeMaria enjoyed the opportunity to combine photography with socializing at the meeting. “I really enjoyed the photography club meeting last year and taking pictures of my friends,” DeMaria said. “I’ve always known photography to be an art but I really enjoyed the opportunity to explore it with other people.”

Current sophomore club member Janie Ripps enjoyed the use of disposable cameras in this activity. “The thing with disposable cameras is that you can’t see what they’re going to look like until you get them developed so it’s a fun surprise to wait it out and now we’ll get to see them which is going to be super fun,” Ripps said.
